John P. Bowen
Also known as
John P. Bowen is an author, follower of Jesus, and Professor Emeritus of Evangelism at Wycliffe College in Toronto, Canada, where he was also the Director of the Institute of Evangelism. He retired from Wycliffe at the end of 2016, on his 70th birthday. Before that, he worked as campus evangelist for Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. John has been a popular speaker, teacher, and preacher on university campuses, in churches and in classrooms, and at conferences across Canada and the USA. John’s formal education includes a BA (1969) and MA (1972) from Oxford University, where he studied English. He has a Doctor of Ministry degree from McMaster University (1999). For nearly 50 years, John Bowen has worked with students and young leaders—and he has loved it. His most fundamental motivation has been his desire to be a follower of Jesus—although he still feels like a very slow learner—and to help others to understand Christian faith and discipleship. He thinks his primary gift is as a teacher. What he learned in seminary really shaped what he teaches. He has an eclectic mind that takes stuff from all these teachers and puts it together in a way that reflects his own theology and passions. His latest book is *The Unfolding Gospel*.
