Richard August Johnson

<b><a href="https://www.mtholyoke.edu/offices/comm/news/obit_johnson.shtml">Richard August Johnson</a></b> (1937–2006) was a <a href="http://oldworld.mtholyoke.edu/acad/engl/profiles/johnson.shtml">professor of English</a> at Mount Holyoke College, and the author of books on composition and the poetry of W.H. Auden. He received his undergraduate education at <a href="http://shimer.edu">Shimer College</a>, where he enrolled before finishing high school due to Shimer's pioneering program of <a href="http://www.shimer.edu/academicprograms/undergraduate/earlyentrantprogram.cfm">early entrance to college</a>, completing his degree at Swarthmore in 1959. He completed his Ph.D. at Cornell University in 1965; in the same year, he began teaching at Mount Holyoke, where he remained for the duration of his career.
