Roland Winston
<b><a href="http://www.ucmerced.edu/faculty/directory/roland-winston">Roland Winston</a></b> is a leading expert in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/nonimaging_optics" class="extiw" title="wikipedia:nonimaging optics">nonimaging optics</a> and its applications to solar energy. A member of the "Founding Faculty" of UC Merced, he <a href="http://www.gf.org/fellows/15941-roland-winston">received</a> a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1977, and has received numerous other awards and honors for his research. He is an elected Fellow of the Optical Society of America and the AAAS, and is the lead author of the definitive text <i>Nonimaging Optics</i> (2005). Winston holds bachelor's degrees from <a href="http://shimer.edu">Shimer College</a>, where he enrolled through the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_entrance_at_Shimer_College">early entrance program</a>, and from the University of Chicago, where he also received his master's and doctoral degrees.
