Norman Berrow
Cyril Norman Berrow (1902-1986) was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, the third of four children. His father, John Berrow, was born in India. Soon after his birth, his family settled in Christchurch, New Zealand. Norman Berrow studied at the University of Canterbury and, after his marriage, spent some time in Gibraltar in the 30s (his early books are set there and he seems to have known the place pretty well), and was in the military service for six years during and just after World War II. According to the New Zealand Birth and Death Index, he died in 1986.
