Sighard Gille' gehört zu den führenden Leipziger Künstlern, die seit den 1970er Jahren die Leipziger Malerei durch ihre eigenständige und beeindruckende Bildsprache prägen. Er ist ein einfühlsamer, ironischer Kommentator alltäglicher Situationen und gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen, bei dem das Malerische im Vordergrund steht. Grosse Bekanntheit erlangte Gille durch die monumentale Deckengestaltung im Foyer des Leipziger Gewandhauses und ist daher nicht nur Kunstkennern ein Begriff. 1980/81 realisierte er das 714 Quadratmeter grosse Wandbild ?Gesang vom Leben" ? das grösste Deckengemälde Europas. Der Katalog, als Werkverzeichnis konzipiert, ist über Text und Bild ein fundiertes und anschauliches Dokument seines vitalen OEuvres.
