Nella luce incantata di un inverno torinese ormai lontano gli viene rivelato quacosa che costituirà la sostanza segreta della sua musica. Infine gli ultimi giorni del compositore austriaco nel terzo racconto, L'ultimo postiglione, il suo ultimo inverno. Laura Mancinelli ne ricostruisce l'atmosfera affidandosi alla fantasia per raccontare quei momenti decisivi, i colpi duri dell'esistenza, la tristezza della mia sera che si preannuncia.
