Description
Toen Bernlef als kind voor het eerst in het ootje werd genomen op 1 april, realiseerde hij zich dat wat iemand zei, niet waar hoefde te zijn. Zo ontdekte hij de vrijheid van de verteller, schrijft hij in "De tweede ruimte". Hoe groot die vrijheid kon zijn leerde hij vervolgens bij de dichters, die tegen het gebruikelijke taalgebruik in schreven. De betovering van deze ontdekkingen bleef. Bernlef werd een hartstochtelijk lezer en iemand die inspirerend over dat lezen schrijft. In deze bundel doet hij dat over hem dierbare buitenlandse dichters als Wallace Stevens, Elizabeth Bishop, Czeslaw Milosz, Zbigniew Herbert, Lars Gustafsson en Tomas Tranströmer.
