Description
This book is based on a six year study of African wild dogs, lycaon pictus, in Tanzania's Selous Game Reserve, the largest protected area in Africa and one of the least-studied.
First Sentence
The scientific name of the African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) means painted wolf, a reference to their patchwork coats of brown, black, and white, which Angier (1996) aptly called "a furred version of combat fatigues."
