Der 'Brücke'-Künstler Erich Heckel lernte den 8 Jahre jüngeren Max Kaus 1916 in Ostende näher kennen. Beide gehörten dem gleichen Sanitätszug an. Für Kaus begann – trotz der teils schreck-lichen Kriegserlebnisse – eine menschlich und künstlerisch anregende und fruchtbare Zeit, die erst endete, als im Oktober 1918 der Sanitätszug aufgelöst wurde und die Kameraden wieder nach Deutschland zurückkehrten. Die Künstlerfreundschaft hielt ein Leben lang, beide widmeten sich nach dem Krieg dem Akt in der Natur, der Landschaft und dem Interieur. Eine stille Klassizität ist zu beobachten, die eine eigene Facette der Kunst der 1920er-Jahre bedeutet. 0Exhibition: Brücke Museum, Berlin, Germany (31.07-25.10.2015).
