Philosophische wie kognitionswissenschaftliche Metapherntheorien sind allerdings erkenntnistheoretisch voraussetzungsreich, wie Gilich an den Konzepten Ricoeurs, Derridas sowie Lakoffs und Johnsons zeigt. Im Dialog zwischen dem Embodied Realism Lakoffs und Johnsons und der Theo-Anthropologie Karl Rahners entwickelt er eine Theologie, die sich als Metaphorologie verstehen und vollziehen kann.
