Cet ouvrage est publié à l'occasion de l'exposition rétrospective présentée à Paris, Musée du Luxembourg, du 12 septembre 2018 au 27 janvier 2019. Après sa féconde carrière parisienne, Mucha se porte vers la grande peinture symbolique et historique, illustrant le réveil national slave. Ce livre entend tracer la ligne de force qui parcourt, d'un pôle à, son oeuvre captivante. The Czech painter, Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), was one of the iconic figures of the Art Nouveau movement. A precocious artist, he painted a theatrical scenery at a young age in Moravia before leaving for Vienna in 1879 where he worked for the theatrical design company of Vienna while continuing his artistic training. He returned to Moravia two years later and worked for Count Karl Khuen of Mikulov who financed his studies in Munich. In 1887, he left for Paris and attended the Académie Julian and the Académie Colarossi. At this time he produced the advertising illustrations which would make him famous. Following his stay in the United States, he returned to Prague where he ended his life in the Czechoslovakia, designing banknotes and postage stamps.
