Description
Catalogue and the corresponding exhibition of 125 "topos" (Gold pin with head) and Pre-Hispanic, colonial and contemporary ornaments and jewelry, from the holdings of the Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore (MUSEF). "Topos have a practical function not only in the clothing of the women, they are also symbolic objects that convey a message, assimilated unconsciously in everyday life. During the Inca empire (1450 d.C.-1532 d.C.), the topos were part of the strategy of expansion of the cusqueño power at the hands of women; in the Colonial period (1532-1825 d.C.) they were symbols of resistance and resilience; and in the years of the Republic they consolidated as the first suymbols of wealth accumulation at the hands of the new mestizo classes."
