Description
Estlin begins by approving the reduction in the postal rates before discussing the Oregon boundary dispute, orders for books, and an accidental dose of laudanum given to him by his daughter during a recent illness. He discusses the visit of Frederick Douglass at some length and criticizes Henry Clarke Wright's articles from "The Liberator." He provides a further explanation of Harriet Martineau's case and refers to a story about mesmerism by Edgar Allan Poe. Estlin repeats his warning that knowledge of the internal dissension among American abolitionists should be kept from the English.
