Description

Take a close look at the magisterial c.1150 inscription on the porch of Santi Giovanni e Paolo al Celio in Rome. Though typically consigned to the dark fringes of Roman lettering, the inscription on Giovanni e Paolo offers a refreshingly non-Imperial articulation of Roman-ness in the lively variety of its 133 letters. The text is set in the {uFB01}rst versions of my Texto Portuguez and Lisboa Italic types and printed on Mohawk paper. Embellished with a transcription and translation of the inscription, drawings of letters, a map of Rome, and photographs of every letterform. Number 2 in the series Swan and Hoop.
