Description
Theater Levano' gaat over theatermaker en musicus Chaim Levano (1928). Levano's leven speelde zich af in Heerlen, Roermond en Amsterdam, met tussenstations in Israël, Parijs, München, Münster en Berlijn. Vanaf de vroege jaren '50 trad hij op als musicus, componist, arrangeur, begeleider, schrijver, regisseur, stem- en voordrachtskunstenaar, acteur, theater-, installatie- en radio- en tv-maker. In Nederland, en later ook in Duitsland, trokken zijn consequent op het avantgardistische en modernistische gedachtegoed gebaseerde activiteiten veel aandacht. Vele groten uit de moderne traditie van Charms tot Schwitters, van Stein tot Chlebnikov werden door hem binnen en buiten het theater gebracht. Maar ook op het eerste gezicht toegankelijker werk als de roman 'Hersenschimmen' van Bernlef en 'Liefdesmest' van Hans-Joachim Schädlich werden succesvol omgezet tot vervreemdend muziektheater. Levano was de eerste die het pianorepertoire van Erik Satie in Nederland speelde en die Schwitters liet klinken.
