Description

This catalogue of the Dutch and Flemish drawings of the fifteenth to the early nineteenth centuries in the Royal Collection at Windsor gives the content and provenance of over 700 drawings in detail, and supersedes the two catalogues by Leo van Puyvelde published in 1942 and 1944. The history of this unique collection is fully described by Professor White in the Introduction; the catalogue which follows is divided into four separate sections according to century, and for ease of reference each of the drawings is illustrated in black and white next to its catalogue entry. The entries for drawings of the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries have been compiled by Christopher White; the entries for the later drawings are by Charlotte Crawley. The catalogue will prove an indispensable work of reference for scholars and students of Northern European art.
