Die in diesem Band gedruckten Vorträge widmen sich den verschiedenen Tätigkeitsfeldern Schnabels und suchen nach Querverbindungen. Sie werden ergänzt durch erstmals veröffentlichte Tondokumente sowie Erinnerungen der Zeitzeugen Hans Heinz Stuckenschmidt, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Leonard Hokanson und Peter Diamand.
