Description
The 13th conference of the Association Internationale pour la Peinture Murale Antique (AIPMA) was held from 12 to 16 September 2016 at the University of Lausanne. It aimed to propose the state of knowledge that has been achieved after more than 30 years of developing the discipline of studying ancient wall paintings. The title of the volume of proceedings of the conference in fact refers back to the 3rd international conference at Avenches in 1986. The volume contains 75 syntheses and papers in German, English, Spanish, French and Italian, on pictorial productions from the entire Mediterranean Basin from the Hellenistic and Roman periods - and mainly from the latter - with particular emphasis on the overall themes previously tackled by the AIPMA: Functional and Spatial Analysis, Temi figurativi, Circulación de temas y sistemas decorativos, Zeitstil und Lokalstil, Context and Meaning. The book gives readers an opportunity to study the results of detailed explorations in an area of research that is thriving but has yet to be further developed in certain areas if it is to come to its full fruition.
