Mit der Ausstellung 'Ernst Ludwig Kirchner: Hieroglyphen' werden die Werke Kirchners aus der Sammlung der Nationalgalerie erstmals geschlossen vorgestellt. Kaum ein Museum in Deutschland kann die Vielfalt im Schaffen dieses Künstlers so eindrücklich wiedergeben wie gerade die Nationalgalerie mit ihrem Bestand. Ergänzt durch markante Leihgaben, die Kirchners Konzept der 'Hieroglyphe' verdeutlichen, und Arbeiten der zeitgenössischen Künstler Rosa Barba und Rudolf Stingel bietet die Ausstellung einen neuen Einblick in das Schaffen des Expressionisten.
