Description
The contributions to this volume provide an introductory summary of electronic properties of conjugated polymers and a collection of the most recent results of research. They deal with the design and application of conjugated polymers in electronics and optoelectronics, including electronic devices, displays, luminescene diodes, and nonlinear optical investigations. The properties of a large variety of new polymers based on polythiophenes, polyabilines, polyvinylenes, polyarenemethylidenes, Ligothienylenes, Langmir-Blodgett films, carbon polymers, oligomers and clusters are compiled. In addition, basic concepts for the design of new polymers are described. Special attention is paid to narrow band-gap polymers, systems with finite conjugation, processable polymers, and their nonlinear optical properties. Particular emphasis is placed on problems of orientation and dimensionality of conjugated systems.
