The bomb exploded, but did not kill Hitler. Revolution in Paris. On July 14th, 1789 the starving and destitute people of Paris rioted in search of food and weapons. The people stormed the Bastille, determined to liberate the prisoners and seize its weapons. The people of France learn through violent struggle they might realize their dream of a people's republic.

The Battle of Britain. The Royal Air Force of Britain defeats the Luftwaffe of Germany and forced Hitler to abandon his plans for a land invasion of Britain. The first flight. The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, two bicycle mechanics from Dayton, Ohio construct an aircraft. On December 17, 1903 Orville Wright became the first man to fly in a self-propelled engine powered plane at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
