Description

Duncklee chronicles his life and hardships as a beginning rancher in the drought of the mid-1950s in Arizona. After working his way through the University of Arizona as a horse wrangler and serving a four-year hitch in the Navy during the Korean War, Duncklee leased the O Bar J Ranch on the bajada of the Sierrita Mountains southwest of Tucson, and was eventually able to sell his herd at a profit. His account is a window on modern-day ranch life under adverse conditions.
