"On November 7, 1955, at a faculty meeting of the Department of History at Southwest Teacher's College, Sun Peiliang, chairperson of the department, suddenly stood up and shouted, "I, as chair of the department, order Wang Xingyun out!" Wu Mi, director of a newly minted academic structure, the teaching and research unit of ancient world history (jiaoyanshi), immediately followed: "I, as director of the jiaoyanshi, order Wang Xingyun out!" Two weeks later, the secretary of the jiaoyanshi Sun Furu, asked if Wu Mi had something else to say in closing another faculty meeting. The latter replied, "I just want to kill Wang Xingyun"--
