Il volume raccoglie 119 lettere inedite di Paolina Leopardi (1800-1869), indirizzate alla cognata Teresa Teja che le trascrisse nel 1878 dagli autografi, in vista di un'edizione mai realizzata. Ripercorrono i viaggi compiuti dalla sorella di Giacomo negli ultimi dieci anni della sua esistenza, attraverso le principali città dell'Italia centro-meridionale. Un corpus epistolare decisamente interessante, da cui emerge la curiosità intellettuale di questa viaggiatrice colta ed esigente, e insieme la trama dei pensieri, dei rapporti e degli stili di vita dell'élite femminile ottocentesca.
