Tra gennaio e maggio 2017, le Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica di Roma ospiteranno nella sede di Palazzo Barberini alcuni dei principali capolavori della collezione della National Gallery di Valletta che saranno messi a confronto per la prima volta con celebri opere della collezione romana. L'esposizione prende spunto dall'intensa relazione storica e artistica che coinvolse i due paesi fin dal Seicento, quando prima Caravaggio (1571- 1610) e poi Mattia Preti (1613-1699) si trasferirono a Malta come cavalieri dell'ordine di San Giovanni e l'isola si aprì progressivamente al gusto e alle novità del Barocco romano. Ed è proprio dal lascito di Caravaggio e della sua lezione pittorica che la mostra prende avvio, dedicando una sezione ai pittori stranieri attivi a Roma all'inizio del Seicento che più ne subirono il fascino. 00Exhibition: Palazzo Barberini, Rome, Italy (12.01.-21.05.2017).
