Description

Sarah Pugh writes William Lloyd Garrison informing him that she has learned of the death of George Thompson through Garrison's announcement in the Boston Journal. Pugh reminisces over Thompson's achievements and labors, noting in particular the "most kindly attentions" he displayed to her and Abby Kimber when they were abroad with Thompson in Scotland in 1840. Pugh announces her regrets to have not seen Garrison that summer in Philadelphia. Pugh inquires of Garrison's opinion of "Harriet Martineau's Biography", in particular of the section composed by Maria Weston Chapman, stating that her correspondance with Chapman in the past year has been both "interesting & instructive". Pugh notes that she and Lucretia Mott were in attendance at the "Rochester Decade" women's rights convention, itself the thirty-year anniversary of the 1848 Woman's Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls, N.Y.
