Description
This work focuses primarily on non-architectural sculpture, though the greatest hits (Parthenon, Temple of Zeus at Olympia) are also included. The most helpful section, more clearly stated than any writers that I've read so far, traces the evolution of pedimental sculpture, metopes, and the continuous frieze. Though some passages may sound dated, this is still a very valuable volume because Richter emphasizes the importance of context in understanding architectural and non-architectural sculpture.
