Het ambtenarenrecht is in de autonome Caribische landen van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden, Curaçao, Aruba en Sint Maarten, en op de tot Nederland behorende Caribische eilanden, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius en Saba, zowel in materiële als in processuele zin een zelfstandig rechtsgebied. De wetgeving is echter verouderd en er is weinig literatuur. Met dit boek is beoogd daar, vooral voor Curaçao, iets aan te doen. Omdat de proceswetgeving in het ambtenarenrecht voor alle Caribische eilanden identiek is en de materiële ambtenarenwetgeving elkaar niet veel ontloopt, is het boek echter ook op de andere eilanden goed bruikbaar.0In deze introductie worden de hoofdlijnen van het ambtenarenrecht beschreven. Na een oriëntatie op het begrip ambtenaar komen de materiële rechtspositie, disciplinaire bestraffing, bijzondere aspecten van sociale zekerheid voor de ambtenaar, staking, overleg en rechtsbescherming aan de orde. Ten slotte wordt vooruitgeblikt op de toekomst, de modernisering van het ambtenarenrecht in de West.
