Eric Williams wrote this book as a novel, re-naming the main characters: he is Peter Howard; Michael Codner is John Clinton; and Oliver Philpot is Philip Rowe. Philpot also wrote about this escape in his own book, *The Stolen Journey*. > Eric Williams, a Royal Air Force bomber captain, was shot down over Germany in 1942 and imprisoned in Stalag Luft III, the infamous German POW camp.
