Terzo, e ... ultimo, dei "Casi del capitano Flores", "Persecuzione infernale" propone una storia che dovrebbe chiarire, qualora sussistesse qualche dubbio, l'intenzione dell'autrice non di scrivere romanzi polizieschi, ma semplici parodie. Nè giallo, nè "noir", nè "horror" quindi, ma puro divertissement. Di conseguenza, il linguaggio è sempre, o quasi, ironico. In quest'ultimo romanzo in particolare, anche la trama scompare sotto l'umorismo, con cui si diverte chi scrive e, forse, chi leggerà. A rompere il registro della scritura tesa all'ironia, emergono qua e là momenti lirici, quasi sempre intorno alla persona del capitano Florindo Flores.
