Description
Der Maler Franz Radziwill (1895-1983) entwickelte eine einzigartige Bildsprache, zu deren Merkmalen ein unverkennbarer Umgang mit Fläche gehört. Mit avantgardistischem Anspruch setzt Radziwill Figuren und Gegenstände in rhythmisch gesetzte Farbflächen. Im Zuge der Neuen Sachlichkeit hebt Radziwill die Flächigkeit durch bildparallele Darstellungen hervor. Im Spätwerk kombinierte er häufig räumliche Darstellung und flächenhafte Gestaltung. Ab 1950 integriert er Schachbrettmuster und Gitterstrukturen in seine Bildräume. Auf diese Weise werden abwechselnd Räumlichkeit als auch Zweidimensionalität der Fläche als Träger der Farbe wahrnehmbar. Mit dieser Bildkonzeption verknüpft Radziwill Moderne mit Tradition.
