Between 1996 and 2011 two governments of different sides succeeded one another and Spanish society underwent relevant transformations with the delegitimization of terrorism, jihadist convulsions and warmongering reactions, humanitarian emergencies, the economic crisis, the end of ETA and the new political subjects of the 15-M movement at the beginning of the second decade of the XXI. In Spanish cinema there is a new generation of filmmakers and women's access to screenwriting and directing jobs; it is the main emergence of a cinematography located before several crossroads: the digital revolution, the diversification of genres and formats, the innovations in the exhibition and the more plural audiences, of an increasingly transnational cinema with a global identity.The main contribution of this book are the analyzes of 131 films that reveal the diversity of genres, styles, fictional figures, personalities, dialogues with reality, social or political commitment, etc. of cinema in these years marked by these transformations. This corpus is complemented with chapters dedicated to drawing a panorama of the history, politics and society of Spain; to map the new trends, evolution of authors, styles and genres, representations of contemporary conflicts and political discourse of our cinema; to give an account of the cinema made by the largest generation of women in all its history; and to reflect on the social perception and public reception of films.of cinema in these years marked by these transformations. --
