Ze bluft zich Broadway en Hollywood binnen en wordt een wereldberoemde filmster. Haar zus Bertha blijft achter in Amsterdam en leidt het saaie bestaan waaraan Julie Goudeket wilde ontsnappen. 0Jetta Goudal verdient in de Roaring Twenties naar huidige maatstaven miljoenen dollars. Ze is de buurvrouw van Charlie Chaplin, heeft een chauffeur, staat soms verdwaasd door verdovingsmiddelen op de set, wordt vijf keer opgenomen in een sanatorium na een zenuwaanval en trouwt in The Dirty Thirties een homoseksuele man. Ze belandt door haar mondigheid op een zwarte lijst en spant drie rechtszaken aan tegen machtige studiobazen. 0. She flees her orthodox Jewish father and wants to start all over again. Julie poses as the mysterious Jetta Goudal from Versailles. She bluffs herself into Broadway and Hollywood and becomes a world-famous film star. Her sister Bertha stays behind in Amsterdam and leads the boring life that Julie Goudeket wanted to escape. Jetta Goudal earns millions of dollars in the Roaring Twenties by today's standards. She is Charlie Chaplin's neighbor, has a driver, is sometimes dazed by drugs on the set, is admitted to a sanatorium five times after a nerve attack and marries a gay man in The Dirty Thirties. Because of her assertiveness, she ends up on a blacklist and brings three lawsuits against powerful studio bosses.
