Cílem této práce je ukázat, jakými způsoby a v jakém časovém pásmu český pozdně gotický knihtisk přerůstal do raně renesančního řemesla a jak se během tohoto procesu měnila literární a vydavatelská scéna a s ní i čtenářská obec. Tiskaři severinsko-kosořské dynastie tomuto zadání velmi dobře vyhovují, protože se výrobě a distribuci tištěné knihy věnovali v letech 1488-1557 a kromě rodové pospolitosti Geršoma Kohena, významného pěstitele pražského hebrejského knihtisku, neměli až do dob melantrišsko-adamovské rodiny jinou dynastickou konkurenci.
