洛宁县, 明清时为永宁县, 虽为豫西之山区, 但这里山清水秀, 人杰地灵, 民风淳朴, 英贤辈出.尤其在注重民风民俗, 保护文化遗迹方面令我们为之赞叹.纵观洛宁遗存下来的明清碑志, 有以下特点：一是数量庞大, 尽管从整体形制上看, 体略为偏小, 但就其数量而言, 是其他县区难以企及的.二是保存完好, 绝大多数碑刻字迹清晰品相颇佳.三是敬祖爱宗, 注重家族传承.家庙, 祠堂, 坟茔碑刻较多, 大多墓碑碑阴或镌刻家族世系谱, 或镌刻墓主生平, 为研究家族世系提供了丰富的石证资料.四是有不少高级别的碑刻, 如左春坊大学士兼翰林侍读学士兼修国史庐陵曾棨撰文的<<工部尚书宋礼墓铭>>, 敕赐嵩山祖庭大少林禅寺罢参散人天晓撰文并书丹的<<重建福胜禅寺记铭>>, 明嘉靖皇帝御撰的<<文庙辩碑记>>, 广东道进士西蜀刘武臣书<<洛出书处题记>>以及<<两程祠记>>等, 都留下了极为珍贵的历史文献.
