Description
Over time, several movements have worked to create better housing - including Arts and Crafts, Better Building Practices, Bauhaus and functionalism - with a formulated purpose to create better and more beautiful homes for all. 'The dream of your own house' focuses on the so-called Government Loan Scheme, which operated in Denmark from 1933-1958. It provided fertile ground for a boom of good houses with architectural quality, as there were requirements for architectural drawings and a limited number of square meters to get the cheap loan granted. The scheme thus made it possible for most people not only to build or buy their own house, but to have their own architect-designed house. It provided work for the architects and high quality houses. The book is written by architectural historian Jannie Rosenberg Bendsen and architect Dorthe Bendtsen. The former has published ' Fredet - Building protection in Denmark 1918 to today', 'Bellahøj' Stories about a building' and most recently 'Tingbjerg' vision and reality.
