Description
Wie kaum ein anderer Krieg sorgte der erste Weltkrieg für eine enorme Beschleunigung technologischer Entwicklungen. Auch die Fotografie wurde von diesem Modernisierungsschub erfasst und Bestandteil der Kriegsführung. Die Fotografie prägte nicht nur das Gesicht des Kriegs, sie wurde auch von ihm geprägt. Zwischen 1914 und 1918 wurde enorm viel Bildmaterial produziert und in Umlauf gebracht. Weltweit lagern in Archiven umfangreiche Fotokonvolute von offiziellen Kriegsfotografen und Amateuren, finden sich Panoramen und Luftbildaufnahmen, Fotopostkarten und bebilderte Kriegstagebücher nie zuvor ist ein Krieg so umfassend fotografiert worden. Die Fotografie trat dadurch in noch nie gekanntem Mass in Erscheinung, sei es als privates Erinnerungsbild, als Postkarte oder reproduziertes Propagandamaterial. Sie war Teil des kulturellen und gesellschaftlichen Umbruchs, den der Erste Weltkrieg verkörperte. Exhibition: Museum für Fotografie, Berlin, Germany (7.11.2014-22.2.2015).
