Description
De tentoonstelling heeft als vertrekpunt de jaren zestig, toen Gorinchem een belangrijk broeinest van de geometrisch-abstracte kunst was, met Ad Dekkers (1938-1974) als voortrekker. Werk van Dekkers, Peter Struycken, Armando, Ewerdt Hilgemann en Jan Schoonhoven is de prelude naar een waaier van kunstenaars die in zwart en/of wit werken. Niet alleen de jaren 60 staan aan de basis van de tentoonstelling. De titel is ook een metafoor voor het zwart-wit-denken in de maatschappij en zeker over de kunst. De vele nuanceringen in zowel zwart als wit laten de genuanceerdheid van de kleur, maar ook die van meningen zien. De tentoonstelling is tevens het afscheid van Piet Augustijn die als conservator hedendaagse kunst sinds 1995 aan het museum is verbonden.
