Description
Around 200 works of renowned Dutch artists of the 16th and 17th Century, Hendrick Goltzius, Jacob van Ruisdael, Jan van Vliet Gillisz and last but not least, Rembrandt were presented together in spring 2012 at the Wallraf. It includes prints of supreme artistic quality that cover an unusually wide range of subjects. Genres scenes, portraits and caricatures belong just as important as mythological and biblical scenes or works that deal with the sculpture of classical antiquity. The exhibition focuses on Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617) and his circle. Through his brilliant use of the medium engraving Goltzius was a catalyst for a variety of artistic innovation in the late 16th Century.
