Description

Part 1: a compilation in five books of the synodal constitutions of the province of Canterbury, from the time of archbishops Stephen Langton (d. 1228) to Henry Chichele (1362?-1443), compiled by Lyndwood and with his gloss commentaries. The work was completed in 1433 and first printed at Oxford in 1483. Regarded by some authorities as law of the Church of England. Part 2: the canons of the plenary councils of the British Isles, held in 1237 and 1268 with papal legates presiding, known also as the Constitutions of Otho and Othobon. Sometimes titled Constitutiones legitime seu legatine regionis anglicane (cf. STC 17108), the text was not written by Lyndwood, but was often bound with earlier editions of his Constitutiones provinciales.
