Description

The Dunbar family had its shares of ups and downs as most do, then the bottom seemed to fall out. Mother had passed away a number of years ago. Father remarried but the new wife, Florence, had little to do with the children. A number of years later, father passed away and the blows begin to fall one after another. Oldest daughter Doris shoulders the weight after learning that the family is now penniless, the family home is mortgaged to the hilt and the oldest son Ned went off and married an objectionable dancer at a local theater, who is after money. Florence suspects the family of cheating her out of an inheritance and goes to great lengths to fight for her rights. Worst of all, Doris' fiancé, Milton, coldly dismisses her anxiety about caring for her family and plans to marry Doris and move west, far from the family. Doris breaks the engagement and searches for a way to support her family. Answering an advertisement brings her to the office of Angus McDonald, who is looking for a companion for his mother while he travels for work. Doris and Mrs. McDonald begin a Bible study, encouraging both and bringing Doris to realize that God truly cares for her. Her story, while seeming to mirror that of Job, also ends with blessing for her and her family.
