Diary kept by Rice during his Civil War service, August to November, 1863, with the 6th Maine Infantry Regiment describing movements of the regiment in northern Virginia, routine camp conditions, and encounters with civilians and other military regiments. The volume also includes diary entries (1864 April-October) by Rice's wife, name not provided, pertaining to visits from her husband and to her life in Smyrna, Aroostook County, Maine, and accounting entries (circa 1864-1876). Includes a photograph of Rice in his Union Army uniform.
