Book 1 : Inheritance: Zoltan Galambos, a student in Hungary between the World Wars, strives to get an education, battling poverty, his father's displeasure, and his own pride. He goes to school in a distant city and, under the guidance of a kindly teacher, begins to realize that he has several legacies held out to him. Zoli must choose which he will accept and in turn pass on. Just as he begins to think that his life is in order at last, he finds himself faced with the hardest choice of all. - Back cover. Book 2 : Bequest: Zoltan Galambos takes over an orphanage of thirty boys, and for a time he works to gain control of the wild group and to meet their needs. But Europe is on the brink of World War II, and Hungary is inevitably drawn into the conflict. Zoli, already a husband and father, becomes a soldier and the sole strength of many people.
