Miss Wigham says that William Lloyd Garrison "aims more to clear the Administration and to prove that the secession is a rebellion than to illustrate his own position." She says that England rejoiced at President Lincoln's proposal for a gradual emancipation of the slaves. She disapproves of Oliver Johnson's exclusion of Harriet Martineau's letter from the "National Anti-Slavery Standard." Miss Wigham says that George Thompson had no influence in England.
