Description
Changes in the minimum temperature as observed at numerous cooperative and first-order weather stations in New York State on two winter nights are described. The two nights were January 15, and January 17, 1965. Minimum temperatures were from 10 to 14 degrees F colder on the 17th than on the 15th in southwestern New York State and in the eastern Finger Lakes. Minima were warmer by a similar margin on the 17th in the eastern Adirondacks and Lake Champlain area. Interesting contrasts in the change of minimum temperatures between the two dates occurred among reporting stations in the western half of the State. The synoptic weather situation early on January 15, 1965, and developments that took place within the next 48 hours are discussed in some detail.
