Description
The General Assembly of Virginia passed an act authorizing each county to form home guard units to act as guards or police in the county during the Civil War. The men who made up these units or companies were either too old, too young, or too valuable to their families and the local community to be in the regular units of the Confederate forces. This book attempts to lists over 5400 men who enlisted in over 130 home guard companies.
