Description
En 1855, 400 émigrants quittèrent le sud-ouest de la France pour fonder une colonie agricole au Paraguay. Mais, au bout de quelques mois, l'opération échoua et provoqua une grave crise dans les relations franco-paraguayennes, au point que Napoléon III envisagea une opération militaire contre cet Etat d'Amérique du sud. L'épisode se termina par l'évacuation des colons dans des conditions dramatiques et par le versement d'une lourde indemnité du Paraguay à la France. Pour la première fois nous publions les archives françaises et paraguayennes sur cette crise méconnue.
