Description

Partial excavation of a cemetery revealed fifty inhumations and forty-six cremations. Grave goods, analysed by type, include a fine silver gilt buckle (cf Taplow), bronze-bound buckets, a square-headed brooch and buckle of Kentish type, beads, textiles, etc. Analysis of grave orientations showed a wide range but some grouping by grave type. Date is first third of 5th century to first half of 7th - an apparent gap AD 525-600 could simply represent undiscovered graves. Analysis of skeletal material is included.
