De duinen langs de Nederlandse en Vlaamse kust zijn eeuwenoud maar in hun huidige vorm weer verrassend jong. Ze zijn het toneel geworden van veel poëzie, tekeningen en schilderijen. Nog niet eerder werd deze 'koelgeklonken band om 't zachter land' (citaat van Augusta Peaux) onderwerp van een bloemlezing. Een landschap dat verandert, verstuift, afkalft en weer groeit. Voor dit boek deden de auteurs een gulle greep uit duingedichten en duingezichten. Hoe verhoudt het landschap in de beeldende kunst zich tot dat in de dichtkunst? Zijn er verschillen en veranderingen merkbaar in natuurbeleving? Op deze en andere vragen wordt ingegaan in de twee begeleidende essays.
