Von den heftig ungestümen Anfängen in der Gemeinschaft der Künstlergruppe Brücke über die realistischere Ausdrucksweise der 1920- und 1930-Jahre bis hin zum souveränen Spätwerk stellt der Band das facettenreiche Schaffen von Max Pechstein vor. Als einer der ersten deutschen Künstler rezipierte er die Ausdrucksmittel des französischen Fauvismus und wandelte sie in einen eigenständigen expressionistischen Stil um. Die Werkschau mit retrospektivem Charakter offenbart seine aussergewöhnlich sinnliche wie gleichermassen kräftige Farbpalette. Von Landschaften, Stillleben, Porträts sowie glühende Sonnenuntergänge, in denen die Eindrücke seiner Südseereise nachklingen, sind alle Motivgruppen vertreten. Exhibition: Bucerius Kunst Forum, Hamburg, Germany (20.05. - 03.09.2017).
